Batak berries, also known as Andaliman pepper is a false pepper. Indeed, the batak berries come from a thorny shrub from Indonesia with the botanical name of Zanthoxylum acanthopodium. It is part of the Rutaceae family and of the Zanthoxylum genus, the same as for the Sichuan or Timur berries.

On the nose, Batak berry releases citrus notes reminiscent of grapefruit and tangerine leaves. In the mouth a lemony flavor, with a flowery side appears.
